A Maryland law that protects members of the media from being compelled to disclose their sources applies to the publisher of an electronic financial newsletter, the Court of Special Appeals held last month. Timothy M. Mulligan, founder of the company that publishes The Eyeshade Report, must still submit to a deposition requested by a manufacturer seeking to find the sources of allegedly defamatory attacks, the appeals court held; however, he may assert the news media privilege on a question-by-question basis.
