PLAY ACTION
by ROB HURTT
Whoever wrote the song "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" certainly didn't play fantasy football. Other than a season-ending injury to a key player, there's nothing fantasy owners dread more than those little white flakes.
December is playoff time, and one slip-up could be the difference between a championship and an early exit. Some safety tips to prepare your team for an unwelcome visit from Mother Nature:
* Check the forecast. Before you sign off on your lineup, make sure there won't be any bad weather games to spoil your good matchups. Neither rain nor wind nor sleet nor snow will completely foil your fantasy-friendly ball-carrier, but those conditions can make passing nearly impossible. If the weather is expected to be unfriendly, consider switching your quarterback and receivers.
* Beware of cold climates. Winter weather can strike almost anywhere, but Green Bay, Denver, New England and Buffalo tend to get hit the worst. Chicago, New York and Philadelphia also can get nailed. Pay close attention to the Patriots, who have three home games remaining. December is by far quarterback Tom Brady's worst month (average of 180.9 passing yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions in eight games) and the weather has been a factor.
