Final figures for emissions of air pollutants in 2001 have been published by DEFRA. They show that between 1990 and 2001, total emissions of sulphur dioxide fell by 70 per cent, nitrogen dioxide by 39 per cent, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by 45 per cent.
