LADY IN THE LAKE 
 
   A forest of cars held up at the lights 
   in all the colours of autumn 
   greens and reds and russets and murky whites 
   contains at its centre 
   a polished black Porsche, 
   its surface of gleaming steel and chromium 
 
   appearing to all purposes like a dark 
   woodland pool. The reflective glass 
   of its windows seems liquid, and so opaque 
   that any passenger 
   --or denizen--under 
   the pool cannot be glimpsed as on foot I pass
