When I watch television these days, I notice that celebrities, even State Duma deputies, like to stand with their hands in their pockets. Back when I was a navy cadet, our superior officers worked very hard to break this bad habit. Cadets who were slow on the uptake were simply ordered to sew their pants pockets shut.
Today pockets are all the rage, especially on jeans and jackets. As often as not, these pockets are put to uses that were probably not intended by the designer. Not long ago I was riding in the metro. A young man and woman got on and stood at the end of the car, though there were seats available. The young man slipped his arm around the girl's shoulders and she tenderly pressed her head to his chest. Then she slid her hands into the back pockets of his jeans and began to massage his assets with her fingers. He didn't seem to mind. His pockets functioned as a sort of screen, shielding the girl's hands from prying eyes.
