NEW DELHI, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - Lauding the role of Infotech professionals in changing world's perception about the country, India's IT and Communications Minister Arun Shourie on Friday said software exports were expected to touch US$11 billion this year.

"IT is one of the greatest achievements of India. Ten years ago it was not a household word", Shourie said flagging off NIIT's computer literacy initiative.

"Today developed countries are setting up protectionist walls against Indian IT industry. Today 1/5th of our exports are accounted for by IT. This year, the exports are set to touch $11 billion," Shourie said.
