SEOUL, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - South Korean trade of semiconductors suffered its largest-ever deficit from January to October, the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) said today.
The data suggested that the Korean chip-making business is increasingly relying on imports of Japanese non-memory chips and equipment as its exports grow.
In the first 10 months of this year, exports of semiconductors amounted to US$15.5 billion, while imports jumped to US$17.3 billion, mostly in trade with Japanese companies, the data found.
It also represented the third consecutive year of trade deficit in semiconductors, after a surplus of US$6 billion in 2000, according to the association.
