SEOUL, Dec 1 Asia Pulse - France's Renault SA has jumped into the bidding race for financially-troubled Ssangyong Motor Co. (KSE:003620), industry sources said Sunday.
More than eight auto companies, including Renault, have offered bids for the South Korean carmaker specializing in sport utility and recreational vehicles, according to Samil Accounting Corp., which is in charge of managing the sale.
Renault is reportedly using its Korean joint venture, Renault-Samsung Motor Co., to be picked as the preferred bidder for Ssangyong ahead of the official presentation of letters of Intent to Ssangyong creditors, scheduled for Dec. 11.
Renault acquired the now-defunct Samsung Motors and launched Renault-Samsung Motor in September 2000.
