LUCENA CITY-For at least 150 squatter families in this city, the occasion was a Christmas dream that finally came true.
On Thursday, President Macapagal-Arroyo distributed at least 150 Certificates of Entitlement for Lot Allocation to the first batch of urban poor that have long been residing in two parcels of government-owned land in the outskirts of the city.
The awarding coincided with the Farmers Forum on Agrarian Reform held Thursday in Centro Pastoral Auditorium in Barangay Isabang.
At least 100 of the lucky informal settlers were members of about 700 families living alongside the vast empty strip of the unused runway in Barangay Ibabang Iyam, some for as long as 30 years.
The other 50 recipients were members of around 200 families who have been occupying the one-hectare piece of land owned by the Philippine National Railways in Barangay Gulang-Gulang.
Ms Macapagal called on the people to continue to support her government.
