THE NATIONAL Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has been urged to draw up new regulations that would allow cellular phone subscribers to keep their mobile phone numbers even when they switch to other mobile carrier companies.

Rep. Joseph Santiago (Catanduanes), a former NTC chief, made the proposal shortly after the United States adopted new federal regulations allowing mobile phone users to retain their phone numbers even if they switched carriers.

"We would not have to change mobile cellphone numbers every time we switch to Smart, Globe, Talk n' Text or Sun Cellular," Santiago said.
