IT'S GOLD or bust.
This is the battlecry of some 100 athletes tasked to deliver the medals that will count for the 445-strong Philippine contingent in its bid to finish better than fifth overall in the 22nd Southeast Asian Games starting this week in Vietnam.
Definitely there will be more than 40 golds for the Filipinos this time, according to Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso Dayrit, which is a lot more than the 31 victories the country achieved two years ago in Malaysia.
But he couldn't say where it would bring the Philippines in the overall fight.
Philippine Sports Commission chair Eric Buhain, head of the government agency tasked with the job of funding the training of the athletes and actual participation of what is actually a 654-member RP squad, continues to maintain a 40-60 gold medal haul.
