TIRED of policemen doing the rounds in your neighborhood for cash and goodies during Christmas?
To keep police officers from spoiling the season's festive spirit, the Philippine National Police has outlawed the practice beginning this year.
But no Scrooge, PNP chief Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. gave his men an alternative source of "legitimate" money for the holidays: lantern-making.
Through the Headquarters Support Service, the PNP sponsored on Thursday a daylong seminar that taught policemen and their immediate families the business of making lanterns and other Christmas decor.
While the project won't yield fast cash like the yearly solicitation practice, Senior Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, HSS deputy director for operations, said it would provide a more lasting source of livelihood for a regular policeman who earns an average of P12,000 monthly.
