(From Philippine Daily Inquirer)
Byline: Jerry Esplanada
BARELY a week after declaring she was done with politics, former Sen. Miriam Santiago has thrown herself into the game anew, pledging support for actor Fernando Poe Jr.'s presidential bid.
"Makikisangga ako dito dahil ginagalang ko ang nanay n'ya (I will get involved because I respect his mother)," Santiago said the other night on ABS-CBN's "Kontrobersyal," claiming Elizabeth Kelly Poe was a close friend.
The fiery lawyer volunteered to represent FPJ in public debates against other candidates.
"Let's see if his opponents are as intelligent as they say they are," she said in emphatic Filipino. Then she looked straight at the camera and addressed those opponents. "You say Ronnie Poe knows nothing. All right, I'll face you for him."
Santiago had apparently forgotten that, in an Inquirer interview last July 11, she described Poe as "incompetent" and "not qualified for public office."
