IS "Panday" an American citizen, and a tax evader at that? The ruling Lakas-CMD party wants to know.
In an interview with RMN radio, Lakas spokesperson Heherson Alvarez urged presidential aspirant Fernando Poe Jr. to come clean on issues concerning his citizenship and his tax remittances as an actor-producer.
But the action star, most famous for his "Ang Panday" movies, is a true-blue Filipino and a "national hero," Senate Minority Leader Vicente Sotto III countered.
"Obviously, Poe running for president has sparked fear in the hearts and minds of some people," Sotto, a member of the LDP and a Poe supporter, told the Inquirer.
Alvarez said it should be easy for Poe to prove his citizenship based on his past transactions that would show whether he had represented himself as a Filipino or an American.
