ZAMBOANGA CITY-After more than two months in captivity, a dentist and his nephew were freed from their captors after an encounter in Parang, Sulu on Saturday night.
Brig. General Alexander Yapching, 104th Army Brigade chief, said the rescued victims, Dr. Romeo Lao and his nephew Amor Propio Rubio, looked "haggard, groggy, dirty and very tired when we got them after the encounter."
Lao and Rubio were rescued shortly before midnight of Saturday in Barangay Lagasan in Parang. They were kidnapped on Scott Road in the capital town of Jolo on Sept. 7.
Prior to the rescue, Lao's relatives reportedly negotiated for the payment of ransom.
