MANNY Lopez watched intently as the RP-Revicon boxers did their final sparring on Wednesday. He liked what he saw.
The boxers, out to reclaim Southeast Asian Games glory, appeared to be in sharp form. Their punches were crisp, strong. Their footwork fast and balanced. Their defense tight and solid.
They should be good for 3-4 golds in Vietnam, Lopez, the local boxing chief, and the coaching staff headed by Gregorio Caliwan assessed.
They're pinning their hopes on veterans Harry Tanamor, gold medalist in the 1st Afro-Asian Games held last month, and Violito Payla, gold medalist in the Acropolis Cup, Gee Bee Tournament and the Chowdry Cup.
Tanamor, also an Asian Games (Busan) silver medalist and World Cup (Thailand) bronze medalist, is the favorite in the light fly category and so is Payla, who is out to better his bronze output in the 2001 Kuala Lumpur.
