ADMINISTRATION Sen. Robert Barbers yesterday expressed confidence he will be President Macapagal-Arroyo's running mate in 2004, saying they would make a good team.
"I think I can complement the President. She (could work) more on economics, and I could focus on peace and order," said Barbers. "She is from Luzon, I am from Mindanao. And I have the experience and the loyalty," he added. Barbers has been a top police official, a congressman and a Cabinet member.
But this early, Barbers may have a potential rival in Senate President Franklin Drilon, who hinted yesterday that he may also run for vice president next year.
"We should always be ready, but the matter for VP is for the presidential candidate and the party to consider,'' Drilon said in Iloilo City, when asked about his political plans during the public affairs program Reklamo Publiko telecast from the Barcelo Sarabia Manor Hotel and Convention Center.
