THE WORLD Health Organization has warned that Asia is creating an environment for the easy spread of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which has killed nearly 30 million people worldwide, because of the climate of fear and discrimination against people living with HIV and AIDS.
Dr. Shigeru Omi, WHO director for the Western Pacific, said the ostracism suffered by HIV patients in Asia had discouraged people from determining their HIV status and getting treatment.
