If weaning your kids from the screen is a priority for the new year, you're in good company. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is so concerned that the nation's kids are becoming less fit in front of TV and computer screens that it is promoting a media and event campaign to encourage active play.
Called "VERB. It's what you do," the campaign is aimed at "tweens" ages 9 to 13. Each day, kids ages 6 to 17 who use the Internet at home spend 3.1 hours in front of the TV and, sometimes concurrently. 2.9 hours using other electronic media, according to a report this year by Grunwald Associates, a San Mateo, Calif., research firm.
