While DVD players are replacing VCRs as the main movie machine in many homes, most TV watchers are still using VCRs to record programs. But DVD is poised to drive out videotape entirely to become your recording medium, too.
Prices for DVD recorders have fallen from more than $1,000 two years ago to about $500 today. All DVD recorders deliver recording quality that's better than what VCRs offer, and some perform functions that no VCR can match. They also offer a way to convert camcorder tapes or VCR recordings to a digital format.
