HeartKit, a ceramic oven insert, seems like a holiday baker's dream: It's supposed to make a plain oven behave like a brick oven for baking crusty loaves of bread, nicely browned cookies, and crispy-crust pizza. In our tests, however, HearthKit's shortcomings far outweighed its benefits:
