Deuce McAllister calls himself the "Sleeping Giant." He doesn't get much recognition, mainly because his team has fallen so far off the radar. But McAllister has been playing big, and if the Saints start winning, people will notice.
New Orleans, in fact, might be a sleeping giant itself. It's only 2-4, but the Saints' offense has as much firepower as any in the league with wide receivers Joe Horn, Jerome Pathon and Donte' Stallworth, tight end Ernie Conwell, quarterback Aaron Brooks and McAllister.
McAllister is a versatile threat in the mold of Marshall Faulk, who redefined the running back position several years ago when he started lining up as a wide receiver and running wideout routes. But now, with the possible exception of Priest Holmes, McAllister is the best in the versatile role. And don't forget he's a power runner, too. He's at his best when running between the tackles, which is a great asset for a team that has been struggling with mistakes.
There have been miscues aplenty, particularly by the receiving unit. Horn, Stallworth and Conwell have been dropping passes left and right. They're just not helping Brooks much.
