SELANGOR Customs director Datuk Wazir Muaz yesterday admitted that most of the cars stolen locally were "exported" overseas via Port Klang.

He said initial checks showed that almost 50 per cent of the stolen cars were smuggled out from the port.

Most of the stolen cars are "exported" to Indonesia, Thailand and Hong Kong.

And in a belated attempt to curb the illicit activities, a task force - comprising senior officers from the Customs Department, police, port terminal operators and port authorities - was formed yesterday.

Wazir himself will be responsible for ensuring the task force completes the task.
