Austin Community College Board of Trustees announces a national Presidential Search. Austin Community College (ACC) has been serving the Central Texas community since 1973. From an original enrollment of 1,800 students, the College has grown to serve more than 70,000 college credit and non-credit students annually. With degrees and certificates in 146 concentrations, ACC offers students a wealth of educational choices. In addition, the College provides university transfer programs, adult education, GED preparation, English-as-a-Second Language instruction, and workforce education. ACC is committed to serving the entire Central Texas community, with particular attention given to reaching traditionally underserved populations.
ACC is a large, urban community college operating as a multi-campus, single college district. In addition to its six campuses, ACC holds classes in 40 other locations within its designated service area. ACC maintains a mix of full-time and adjunct faculty numbering more than 1,400. ACC is governed by a publicly elected, nine-member Board of Trustees. The College's budget is over $111 million. Revenue is acquired from state appropriations, tuition and fees, local taxes, and other sources. In May 2003, area voters gave ACC a major vote of confidence, passing a $99 million bond and increasing the College's operating tax rate.
