After a 6-3 vote by the Supreme Court outlawed its admissions policy to increase campus diversity by giving minority applicants bonus points, the University of Michigan announced that a new essay section will be added to admission applications starting in fall 2004 for first-year students and this winter for transfers.
Applicants will be asked to write three essays. They will answer: "At the University of Michigan, we are committed to building an academically superb and widely diverse educational community. What would you as an individual bring to our campus community?" Another asks: "Describe an ...
