The popular online invitation service Evite (www.evite.com) is testing out version 2.0 of its party-planning offerings.

The site's new features let event organizers make their get-togethers public, if they wish, and in some cities can also recommend places to throw a shindig.

While many of Evite's 5 million users have employed the site only to stage private events such as baby showers, the 2.0 additions aim to push Evite regulars to be a little more social with each other.
