Novell, emboldened by its new Linux strategy and an infusion of funds, plans to make a big push in Asia and renew its rivalry with Microsoft.
This was the message from Novell executives last week after they announced a deal to acquire European software and services from SuSE Linux for US$210 million and the sale of a minority stake in Novell to IBM for $50 million.
With those developments, Novell claimed it would soon become "the only US$1 billion software company with a Linux distribution and a worldwide technical staff to support it".
