In the parlance of the Internet age, the word "meme" refers to a self-replicating idea, phrase, or concept that spreads through a population like a virus. Memes can be playful pieces of trivial slang, advertising slogans as indelible as they are annoying, or innovative expressions that usefully add to our common vocabulary.
