The luxury cruise ship Aurora sailed back into its home port of Southhampton with several passengers threatening legal action after hundreds of them fell sick with a virulent stomach virus.

More than 500 of the 1,800 passengers on the gleaming white P and O Cruises vessel succumbed to the highly contagious bug during a 17-day Mediterranean cruise turned into a nightmare.

The Aurora also triggered a diplomatic spat between London and Madrid on Monday, as Spain closed its border with the disputed British colony for the first time in more than 30 years when the ship made a day-long stopover.
