THE FIRST auction for a UMTS licence in Bulgaria will be held Wednesday, March 30. Bulgaria is the only European country that has not awarded a 3G licence so far. Only the local GSM operators - Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC), Mobiltel and Globul - will participate in the bidding.

Despite doubts that the Commission for Regulation of Communications may revoke the tenders due to the expiration of the mandate of three of its members, Thursday the regulator said the tenders will be held.
