Hope by now all my readers are caught up in the delightful habit of following the phases of the moon. In the traditional Japanese almanac, the full moon Saturday was the midpoint of the second month. For Christians worldwide, it was the Easter or paschal moon, followed by Easter Sunday the next day.

As earthlings, we owe a lot to our celestial partner. Not only does the moon light up the nighttime sky for us, it inspires our poets, songwriters and mystics, makes it easy to track the progress of the year (the Islamic world relies solely on the lunar cycle to set their dates), and even drives the tides that relentlessly massage our coastlines.
