In two separate incidents, two University of Memphis students are facing domestic assault charges, but being treated very differently by the university.
Memphis suspended female student Jalysia Thompson who allegedly assaulted her ex-boyfriend, 320-pound defensive lineman LaVale Washington. Although Thompson had a deep scratch on her arm, police decided she was the aggressor in the incident. Washington and his roommate, who she claimed were also aggressors, were not disciplined.
Thompson noted that she is being treated differently than varsity basketball player Jeremy Hunt, who is charged with domestic assault in a January beating of his ex-girlfriend. While Thompson was suspended, Hunt continues to play for and attend the university.
