My friend, Brian Medlin.(First Person)(Obituary)
BRIAN MEDLIN, who died in his home at Horsham, Victoria, on October 27, 2004, was one of the most striking personalities that Australian philosophy has seen. He was a country boy born at Orroroo in South Australia, a town on the edge of the Goyder line, the 254mm rainfall line (ten inches in old-speak) that determines whether agriculture can be practised satisfactorily over the years. At a young age he was a drover and accomplished bushman with a deep love of the bush. After turning southward to Adelaide, education and in particular philosophy claimed him, his teachers being Jack Smart and the American C.B. ("Charlie") Martin.
