SARASOTA COUNTY -- Virginia "Ginny" Poyner pedals hundreds of miles a week on a bike despite persistent asthma and a muscle condition that requires an assortment of pills and injections.

Friends say she once broke her collar bone and has had a few other scrapes in a cycling career that has snaked around the world.
