Wellington, March 18 - A Ford off-roader has won the Automobile Association (AA) inaugural Motoring Excellence Award.

The award, which replaces the former AA Car of the Year award, was given to the Ford Territory TX AWD Auto at a black tie function in Auckland tonight.

The car successfully managed to be both a comfortable family car and hard-core off-roader, AA said in a statement tonight.

The Ford Territory was selected from eleven Excellence Award category winners.
