Nearly all the camcorders on the market are digital. Only a few older analog models remain. Digital dominates because it delivers consistent picture quality--no falloff at slow taping speed--and a wealth of options. With digital, you can record on tapes, discs, or memory cards. A growing number of camcorders can also take snapshots.
But we have found that multiple-function image-takers really can't do everything well. Camcorders that record stills don't yet achieve the image quality of 4- to 5-megapixel cameras.
