BMC Software is to buy identity management startup Calendra in a move that will accelerate the one-time mainframe software giant's journey into business service management, where IT and business processes are aligned.

BMC said that it would use the Calendra purchase to help businesses manage directories and provide a platform for the building of workflow capabilities.

The $33m cash deal underlines how identity management vendors are becoming hot properties, as firms seek to get a stronger grip on their human and other assets to improve security and support regulatory compliance. The agreement follows the $439m purchase of …
