A letter of intent for a $3 bn ethane-based petrochemical complex in Ras Laffan, Qatar, has been signed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell Chemicals. Capacity of the cracker is expected to be 1.2-1.3 M tonne/y. A letter of intent for the development of a similar complex was signed by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil Chemical in Jun 2004. A 1.3 M tonne/y cracker is being built at Ras Laffan by Qatar Petroleum, Qatofin and Q-Chem. This is due to come onstream in 2007.
