The 222 vehicle profiles that begin on the next page contain information to help you make a sound car-buying decision. They cover all major 2005 and early-2006 models that are available of will be soon. In each profile, you'll find essential specifications and measurements; forecasts of reliability, owner satisfaction, and depreciation; prices; and, most important, CONSUMER REPORTS' independent, expert, unbiased capsule reviews. Below is a guide to interpreting information in the profiles. ("NA" means data is not available. "New" indicates a new or redesigned model, so we don't have the specific data.)

RECOMMENDED & TOP PICKS

A model earns a Recommended label if it performed well in our tests, has had average or better reliability according to our annual subscriber survey, and performed adequately in any government and/or insurance-industry crash or rollover tests. Some models are not recommended either because CONSUMER REPORTS hasn't tested them recently or because we don't have sufficient reliability data on them. A Top Pick is a Recommended model that scored at the top of its category in our testing (see page 6).
