TAIPEI, March 2 Asia Pulse - The volume of trade between Taiwan and mainland China amounted to US$61.63 billion in 2004, up 33.1 per cent from the previous year, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) reported Tuesday.
The figure accounted for 18 per cent of Taiwan's total foreign trade volume, representing an increase of 0.9 per cent from 2003, according to the report.
Exports to the mainland rose 27.2 per cent year-on-year to US$44.96 billion in 2004, which corresponded to 25.8 per cent of total exports by Taiwan.
Imports from the mainland also jumped 52.2 per cent year-on-year to US$16.67 billion in 2004, which accounted for 9.9 per cent of total imports by Taiwan.
Trade surplus towards the mainland amounted to US$28.28 billion in 2004, up 15.9 per cent from 2003.
