A Scottish MP is leading calls for an official register of Scottish tartans.
Highlands and Islands Tory MP Jamie McGrigor said the move would end confusion over the authenticity of up to 4,000 existing designs, and boost tourism.
His comments came as he launched a formal consultation on the proposal, which has the backing of retailers, weavers, wholesalers and exporters, the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and the Lord Lyon King of Arms, Robin Blair.
The consultation is due to end in May.
