Night's takings stolen as four-man armed gangswoop at closing time on award-winning hostelry

A BARMAN was held hostage, threatened and had a sawn-off shotgun trained on him by raiders who ransacked an award-winning pub and restaurant in Kildare before making their escape with thousands of euro.

Gardai are hunting a four-man gang behind the raid who used angle grinders and sledge hammers to break their way in to the safe at Moone High Cross Inn.

The men had surrounded the barman as he locked up the premises at 2am in the early hours of Sunday morning.
