Section: General News - The provincial authorities in Thailand's northern resort province of Chiang Mai have scheduled a meeting of local government agencies to form a response to an official warning that the province is prone to craters and earthquakes.

The Department of Mineral Resources has issued a warning that Chiang Mai is vulnerable to earthquakes, with frequent recorded tremors of 5.0-5.9 on the Richter scale, according to the province's Deputy Governor, Prinya Panthong.

It is 500 years since Chiang Mai experienced a massive earthquake.
