Section: Corporate News - UBC offering lower connection, monthly charges for non-premium packages, The Nation reports.
United Broadcast-ing Corp Plc (UBC), Thailand's biggest pay-TV operator, yesterday announced its most generous fee reductions ever in a bid to increase subscriptions.
The open-ended promotion, to be launched in the next couple of months, will see the initial connection charge slashed from Bt11,000 to Bt4,000 for all new subscribers and a reduction of about one-third in the monthly fee for its lower-end packages.
Vasili Sgourdos, UBC's deputy chief financial officer, said the promotional package would have to attract between 50,000 and 60,000 new subscribers to make sense.
UBC had 457,542 subscribers as of December 31 last year and has set a long-term goal of reaching 800,000 subscribers, or 30 per cent of all TV-owning households that can afford UBC's fees, Sgourdos said.
He said that the monthly subscription fee for UBC's 21-channel Silver package would be reduced from Bt1,070 to Bt750 and the monthly fee for its 10-channel Bronze package from Bt928 to Bt700.
