Section: General News - Acting on Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's instructions, the National Security Council (NSC) is drafting a plan for an operations centre that will be in charge of dealing with national crises, The Nation reports.
"The new centre will be tasked to ensure preparedness, alert relevant agencies and act as the central command and control headquarters for the prime minister to divert crises," NSC secretary-general General Winai Phattiyakul said.
Winai said Thaksin had tasked his office to map out the centre's operational blueprint in the wake of the tsunami catastrophe.
"The prime minister found a lack of coordination among government officials after the killer waves hit the shoreline and he did not want to see a repeat," he said.
