Indian electoral politics is strange, to say the least. In one state, a government that had done nothing for years on end was voted out. In another, a government that was apparently performing was voted out, too. So what gives?

Recall the India Shining slogan? It cost the BJP it's run at the Centre. It's the same thing at work again. For those whose India was shining, they wanted more. For those whose India was not shining, they wanted some of that shine.

In Haryana, where there was shine compared to dismal Bihar, the voters' wanted more. For each Gurgaon, there were many Panipats and Sonepats and rural pockets which wanted the same level of development and jobs.
