As the polling data below show, the United States and Canada differ--sometimes sharply--on a number of social issues. Canadians are more likely than Americans to say that premarital sex, extramarital affairs, divorce, and having a baby outside of marriage are morally acceptable. Some of our differences surely stem from the strength of religious belief and practice in the United States. Canadians are less likely than Americans to favor the death penalty. Only small numbers of Canadians and Americans say they have given serious thought to moving to each other's countries.
