TOKYO, Feb 25 Asia Pulse - U.S. personal computer manufacturers took market share away from their Japanese rivals last year by prevailing in price competition.

In a 2004 domestic PC shipment share survey released Thursday by International Data Corp. Japan, Dell Inc. ranked third, with its share exceeding the 10 per cent mark for the first time to reach 11.2 per cent -- up 1.5 percentage points on the year.

IBM Japan Ltd. rose from sixth in 2003 to fifth by gaining 0.6 point to 7.3 per cent. Hewlett-Packard Japan Ltd. climbed from seventh to sixth, picking up 1.3 points to reach 6.2 per cent.
