PUNE: Punekars had to face the coldest day of the season as the minimum temperature dropped to the season's lowest of 5.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning. This broke the previous record of the lowest temperature of 5.9 degrees Celsius, recorded on January 19 this year.

A.B. Muzumdar, director (weather central), Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, attributed this to a surge of cold wave from the North.

"Pune lies at the rear of the western disturbances which are affecting the northern parts of the country, causing a surge of cold wave in the city," he said.
