Insurance claims for damage from the violent storms that lashed the eastern states of Australia at the start of February could top A$100m, according to insurers.
Snow, hail, lightning, dust storms, raging winds, plummeting temperatures and rain were unleashed on much of Victoria, South Australia and the eastern seaboard over a 48-hour period.
The storms, which dumped a record 120mm of rain on Melbourne alone in just 24 hours, resulted in thousands of homes being damaged, and highways and train tracks cut off by floods after the Yarra River burst its banks.
